About Dental Implants
A beautiful smile can be your best feature and significantly impact your confidence. If you have damaged or missing teeth, you might feel self-conscious and avoid smiling as much as possible. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Dental implants offer a durable, comfortable, and natural-looking solution for replacing missing teeth.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants might be the right option for you if you:
- Have one or more missing teeth
- Have a fully grown jawbone
- Have adequate bone structure to secure the implants, or are willing to undergo a bone grafting procedure
- Have healthy oral tissues
- Do not have health conditions that affect bone healing
- Are unable or unwilling to wear dentures
- Want to improve your speech and eating ability
Benefits of Dental Implants
- Long-Lasting Solution: Dental implants can last 25 years or longer with proper care, making them a great permanent solution for missing or damaged teeth.
- Virtually Pain-Free: The procedure involves minimal discomfort, comparable to getting a filling. Over-the-counter pain medicine can easily manage any minor swelling.
- Superior to Bridges and Dentures: Implants last longer, are more comfortable, and do not damage surrounding teeth. Unlike dentures, they fit naturally and look real.
- Cosmetically Appealing: Implants are matched to your tooth color, blending seamlessly with your natural teeth.
- Comfortable: They mimic your tooth’s natural root, making them feel just like your natural teeth.
- Affordable: Dental implants are a cost-effective long-term solution. Many practices offer payment plans, and some insurance plans may cover the procedure.
The Dental Implant Procedure
- Initial Consultation: Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation at North Haven Dentists. We will assess your oral health, take necessary scans and x-rays, and discuss your treatment options. Learn more about our consultation process.
- Implant Placement: During an outpatient procedure, the titanium implants are surgically placed into the jawbone. Most patients opt for sedation in addition to local anesthesia to ensure comfort. For more details, visit our Dental Implants page.
- Healing Period: Over the next few months, the implants will integrate with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This provides a stable base for your new teeth.
- Abutment Placement: Once the implants have integrated, abutments (connectors) are attached to the implants to hold the prosthetic teeth securely.
- Permanent Teeth Placement: Custom-made prosthetic teeth are attached to the abutments, completing the restoration. Check out our Implant Treatment Timeline for more information.
Maintenance and Care
To ensure the longevity of your dental implants:
- Regular Checkups: Schedule regular dental checkups to monitor your implants and overall oral health. Visit our [Services ](/services) page for more information.
- Good Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss daily to keep your implants and surrounding tissues healthy.
- Avoid Hard Foods: Be mindful of eating hard or sticky foods that could damage your prosthetics.

At our practice, the entire treatment is handled at one location with one doctor. Further, our lab work is performed at our partner lab for more savings.
FINANCING: We also offer many payment plans and options that make implants quite affordable at low monthly rates. If your credit score is average or even slightly below, we can help you apply online with a third-party financing company, and you’ll receive an instant decision in most cases. This pre-qualifying approach is a “soft” credit check. Some patients tap a friend, family member, or spouse to co-sign with them for financing if they don’t qualify. Other alternative options may also be available to you.
** What is a fixed provisional, and how is that different from the final prosthesis?Provisional teeth are made of hard industrial plastic. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth. On the day of surgery, your provisional teeth are placed on top of the implants and remain in place for 2-4 months, allowing the appropriate amount of time for your jaw bone to adhere to the implants. After your bone securely heals to the implants, you will then receive your final lifetime teeth, usually made of zirconia, Prettau®, or other high-quality material.
